Pierre Jeanneret Stool

Designed by Pierre Jeanneret, the Iron Stool PJ-SI-57-A is a refined example of mid-century functional modernism, where economy of means and structural honesty are inseparable.

Originally conceived for the institutional buildings of Chandigarh, the piece is defined by its clean geometry and disciplined proportions. A round seat in solid teak is carried by slender iron legs joined by a single ring, creating a silhouette that feels both sturdy and light. Made by local craftsmen, the stool was built for daily use in offices, schools and laboratories, with nothing added that does not serve its purpose.

The PJ-SI-57-A reflects Jeanneret's broader design philosophy: honest materials, visible construction, and forms derived directly from function. The contrast between warm, patinated teak and dark iron gives it a quiet presence, allowing it to move easily from workspace to living space.
