Pierre Jeanneret Dining Table
This rare Pierre Jeanneret dining table, model PJ-TA-01-A, is a masterful example of mid-century modernist design, originally conceived for the Post-Graduate Institute (P.G.I. Hospital) canteen and select private residences in Chandigarh circa 1960–1961. These small, functional tables were designed for collective use, yet their refined form demonstrates Jeanneret’s signature blend of practicality and minimalist elegance. Crafted in solid and plated teak, the tables feature the distinctive “spindle” type legs and a tabletop with a shapely beveled field, combining robustness with subtle sophistication. Both tables display exceptional patina, highlighting the richness of the original wood, and carry subtle Indian symbols and marks that link them directly to their regional heritage.
Pierre Jeanneret, a Swiss architect and furniture designer, collaborated closely with his cousin, Le Corbusier, on the master plan and furniture for Chandigarh, shaping the city’s modernist identity. This pair of dining tables is a rare and historically significant example of his Chandigarh-era furniture, prized by collectors and curators for its craftsmanship, provenance, and enduring aesthetic appeal. As a vintage collector’s item, it comes with guaranteed authenticity, representing both a functional object and a tangible piece of design history.
