Niek Hiemstra UFO Table Lamp

This exceptionally rare UFO-shaped table lamp is an outstanding example of experimental mid-century lighting design by Dutch designer Niek Hiemstra. Its unusual construction immediately sets it apart: the lamp rests on slender tripod legs, while the body is enclosed in an ivory-painted wire mesh that creates a refined, atmospheric diffusion of light. The flat, round black metal enameled aluminium shade enhances the lamp’s graphic silhouette and reinforces its futuristic character. Pieces of this specific model are virtually undocumented, and it is quite possible that this lamp was produced as a prototype or in an extremely limited run.

Manufactured by Hiemstra Evolux, the Netherlands, 1950. Hiemstra Evolux was a progressive design company located in Amsterdam and was originally founded as Hiemstra & Evenblij in 1934. After his companion left the business in 1952, Hiemstra continued independently and renamed the company Hiemstra Evolux, a name combining the ideas of evolution and light. This lamp stands as a rare testament to his innovative vision and remains an exceptional and possibly unique example within his body of work.
