José Zanine Caldas Lounge Chair

This rare Espreguiçadeira, or chaise longue, was designed in 1949 by Brazilian architect and designer José Zanine Caldas for his own workshop, Móveis Artísticos Z. Marked by a singular idiosyncrasy from a young age, Caldas consistently deviated from the conventional path. In an era defined by rapid industrialization and globalization, he let his deep love of nature guide both his artistic vision and material choices. This chaise longue embodies his design philosophy: its plywood framework is shaped by undulating contours that both soften and strengthen its form. The seat curves elegantly over cotton ropes, lending the piece a bold, graphic quality.

Certified piece.
